GratuityCalc publishes gratuity and end-of-service calculators and guides for the UAE and India. Because these pages deal with money and employment law, we are explicit about how each page is researched, what we verify, and — just as important — what we do not claim. This page defines our standard so you can judge our work.
What "editorially source-checked" means
When a page says it is editorially source-checked, it means the GratuityCalc Editorial Team has confirmed that the page points to the relevant governing statute and that its consequential claims — formulas, divisors, eligibility thresholds, caps, and deadlines — are consistent with those sources on the date shown.
Editorial source-checking is not a substitute for individual legal or tax advice. If a qualified lawyer, chartered accountant, or licensed advisor contributes to a page, we will name that person, their credentials, their role, and the date of their contribution. Absent such a named contributor, treat every page as educational research, not professional advice.
Our source hierarchy
We prioritise sources in this order, and we cite the specific instrument rather than a vague "official source":
- Primary legislation and official calculators — the Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972; the UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 and its Executive Regulations; Section 10(10) of the Income-tax Act, 1961; the Code on Wages, 2019.
- Government labour and tax authorities — the Ministry of Labour & Employment (India), the Income Tax Department (India), the UAE Ministry of Human Resources & Emiratisation (MOHRE), and free-zone authorities such as the DIFC and ADGM.
- Published court judgments — for contested points such as the "4 years and 240 days" rule, we cite the relevant High Court or Supreme Court holding.
- Reputable professional interpretation — established law firms and audit firms, used only to explain the primary sources above, never in place of them.
Our four-step source-check process
- Locate the governing rule in the primary source for the exact country and situation the page covers.
- Reproduce the math — every formula and worked example is computed and cross-checked against the statutory method, not copied from other websites.
- Map claims to sources — each consequential claim is tied to the specific instrument that supports it, and we state the limits of that source.
- Record dates — the page shows when it was published and when it was last reviewed; the sitemap timestamp is updated in step.
What We Do Not Claim
- We do not provide individual legal, tax, or financial advice, and we do not create an advisor–client relationship.
- We do not guarantee the figure your employer will pay. Our results are estimates based on the inputs you provide.
- We do not decide disputes. Gratuity disputes are determined by the Controlling Authority under the Payment of Gratuity Act, by MOHRE, or by the courts — not by this website.
- We do not claim our pages are medically, legally, or clinically reviewed unless a named, credentialed contributor is shown on the page.
How we keep pages current
We update a page on a trigger, not a fixed calendar: when a law or rule changes, when a new official calculator or notification is published, when a cited source moves or is withdrawn, or when a reader reports an error. We do not promise a review cadence we cannot keep. When we make a material change, we update the visible "last reviewed" date and the sitemap timestamp together.
Corrections
If you believe a formula, figure, or legal statement on this site is wrong, email hello@gratuitycalc.com with the page URL and the specific claim. We review every report, correct confirmed errors promptly, and refresh the visible review date on the corrected page.
